Knight Dreams
Posted in Poetry Leave a comment
Once there was a little girl,
Upon her mother’s knee,
Dolls and tea cups, ribbons and bows,
The occasional climb of a tree.
Off to school, the recess yard,
Jump rope on the street,
Dreaming of her wedding day,
When he would sweep her off her feet.
Her knight in shining armor,
Her protector to the end,
The dream of all their life would be,
Until the very end.
Her dreams took on a different look,
Heart of flesh changed heart of stone,
The promise: I’ll never leave you.
You’ll never be alone.
Dreams of another wedding day,
Where the Bridegroom humbly serves,
And she stands washed in His purity,
With the water of His Word.
He, her Knight, and He, her King,
She, the damsel in distress,
No longer clothed in peasant rags,
But in His Righteousness.
A white horse brings Him: Faithful, True.
From His mouth she sees a sword.
A blood dripped robe and on His thigh,
King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
He left His home in heaven,
When He came to set her free,
Made Himself nothing, obedient to death,
And His Name bows every knee.
His Kingdom will have the water of life,
And a tree with fruit counted twelve,
She will see His face. There is no more night.
And with her forever He dwells.
And there He stands, her Lamb, her Knight,
His armor so often she wore,
With love scarred hands and a hole in His side,
She is His forever more.
So gone are the days of the thorns and the tears,
Her Knight has made everything new,
A white linen robe and a crown on her head,
I am married only to You.
Then the angel said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!’ ” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”
