Sonrise

He will ride upon a stallion.
An animal fit for war.
That day, upon a donkey
That was never ridden before.

He wept when He saw Jerusalem.
If the people only knew.
He longed to hold them in His arms
As a mother hen would do.

They spread their palms upon the ground.
Hosanna they all cried.
He would rule and lead and fight for them.
Never thought He came to die.

They ate a meal together
Like so many times before.
Eat my Body. Drink My Blood.
Do this forevermore.

What kind of King gives up like that?
They don’t recognize this Man.
He sweat blood in the garden.
This was all the Father’s plan.

Men came there to arrest Him.
What was it He had done?
Bogus trials through the night.
Lamb to slaughter, Anointed One.

Nails were driven through hands and feet.
On His head a crown of thorns.
Blood and water from His side.
Believe and be reborn.

A loud cry heard by a Roman guard.
No ordinary death.
The curtain in the temple tore
When He took His final breath.

They placed Him in a borrowed tomb.
Now…a place to lay His head.
Betrayal, questions, absurd defeat
How could Messiah have bled?

They thought that if there was a guard,
And perhaps a sturdy seal,
His outrageous story would be a lie.
By His stripes we would be healed.

Then came the new dawn…morning.
Who would move away the stone?
He is not here. He is risen.
Accomplished by God alone.

He the first fruits…God-man.
He that went before.
He the Lamb and Lion.
He the open Door.

Oh thank You, precious Savior.
Oh, thank You, Risen Lord.
Oh thank You, Ascended Jesus.
For Your Word, our only Sword.

May we always tell the story.
Etched on hearts, not etched on stone.
We belong to You, sweet Jesus.
We belong to You alone.

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…(1 Corinthians 15: 3, 4)
