Too Much Easter?
Posted in Evangelism 2 Comments
There can be too much chocolate…too much candy.
There are children’s books that talk about too much birthday.
But can we have too much Easter?
How do we carry our Easter Sunday into our Easter Monday?
If Easter is only in the clothes we wore, it is left hanging in the closet.
If Easter is only in the food we ate, it will be exercised away at the gym.
If Easter is just a snapshot, we will find it on our camera roll.
If Easter is only that…it is nothing.
It would be sand sifting through our fingers.
It is so much more.
We find the promise of resurrection on every page of Scripture.
From the first words of Genesis…IN THE BEGINNING, GOD…it is there.
Promised…though not always understood.
Two travelers, on the road to Emmaus, talked about all that had happened.
There had been such hope concerning Jesus…such promise.
Everything fell apart before their eyes.
As they were walking, Jesus Himself joined them and asked about what they were discussing. This man must be a visitor to Jerusalem, they concluded, because everyone knows the things that have happened in these days.
They explained that this Jesus was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and our rulers handed Him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified Him; but we had hoped that He was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning but didn’t find His body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said He was alive. Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but Him they did not see. (Luke 24:13-24)
Jesus said, How foolish you are and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter His glory? And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning Himself. (Luke 24: 25-27)
If I could trade places with anyone in Scripture, it would be these two travelers.
To walk and talk with the Risen Lord Jesus…
To have Jesus explain everything Scripture said about Himself…
We, who are in Christ, have no need to trade places.
We have the Risen Lord Jesus walking with us every day through His Spirit.
We have the same Scripture that Jesus expounded on as He walked along.
Much like the two men on the road to Emmaus, we can ask Jesus to stay with us.
We can have meal fellowship with Him.
Every time we eat the bread and drink the cup, our eyes are opened.
We recognize Him.
Our hearts should be burning within us, as He opens up the Scriptures to us.
We travel the road with Him.
We had hoped…soon becomes…It is true! The Lord has risen.
There is never too much Easter.
We must live out the truth of Resurrection Sunday boldly on Easter Monday…and beyond.
We are the story tellers.
We are the travelers on the road.
He is with us.
He is still opening eyes and causing hearts to burn.
It is true!
Dear Gina, He is Risen! He is with us! Praise and Glory to Him! I wanted to share with you and your readers a “special” Easter moment that others may want to enjoy with their families. I put handwritten Bible verses of praise and thanksgiving in plastic colored eggs. Before our mealtime prayer, the basket of eggs were passed around our table. Each person took an egg, and then took turns reading “God’s Word.” Oh how He loves when we praise Him! Blessings, Linda Leinbach
Linda,
What a wonderful idea!
You are right…He loves when we praise Him.
Any creative ideas about surrounding ourselves and those we love with God’s Word are a blessing and should be shared.
Your suggestion is not just for Easter…but for any day…so we can hide His Word in our heart.
Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
