Finger of God
Posted in Evangelism Leave a comment
We had to take a car for inspection this morning.
I love the early morning.
There is so much to see…the light is so different this time of day.
There is so much to hear…it is so quiet you can hear sounds you would normally miss.
Since I didn’t get to walk this morning, my prayer time was in the car as I drove home.
But suddenly…there it was.
We all have seen it.
Brilliant rays of sunshine making diagonal lines through the sky.
The finger of God.
That is what I used to call it when I was a little girl.
I imagined His Hand reaching down, in all of its brilliance.
One end up in heaven…the other end touching the earth.
It was always comforting to me.
This morning, I realized it still is!
Basking in the peacefulness of that image, I recalled another one I love to see.
You’re standing outside and the sky is dark and gray.
It is full of clouds…threatening.
Then suddenly…an opening.
The clouds seem to part, just enough, for the brilliant sunlight to come shining through.
Heaven’s door.
As if God was shining a flashlight from heaven.
It’s alright…I’m here…Let Me light the way.
God’s finger.
Heaven’s door.
I love when God uses the ordinary to give us glimpses of the profound.
I love to find Him in the ordinary.
The ordinary suddenly becomes a holy moment…because He is in it.
Remember the hidden picture puzzles in the children’s magazines?
Some images were so easy to find.
Some were terribly difficult and help was needed.
God doesn’t hide Himself…like a puzzle for us to complete.
He is always there…all along.
Until our eyes are opened to Him…to His Word…to His truth, we cannot understand.
We look at spiritual things two dimensionally…seeing only with our physical eyes.
We need to see spiritual things with spiritual eyes…with eyes of the heart.
The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. (1 Corinthians 2:14)
It’s as if we are under a veil.
Only God can remove the veil and open our eyes.
Until then, we are spiritually blind.
But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:16-18)
If we are in Christ, our veil has been removed.
We pray…earnestly…for the veil to be removed from those we know and love.
We want so much for them to see Him clearly.
God is in the Sovereign business of veil removal.
He is the eye opener…the ear opener…the heart transplant-er.
In the meantime, we pray.
We continue to show others the ordinary…and point them to Him.
The ordinary, everyday things that are extraordinary because He is in them.
God’s finger.
Heaven’s door.
Can you see it?
Can they?
Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing but never perceiving. Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed. (Isaiah 6:9,10)
