Under the Sun

Posted in Poetry | 2 Comments

I looked among the packages
But couldn’t find You there.
I searched the malls and parking lots
But found that they were bare.

I looked inside my wallet
Knowing You would be inside.
But found that only money and
Cold plastic was inside.

I looked in decorations
That were shining in the hall.
But they have lost their luster.
You were never there at all.

You are missing in the courthouse,
In the schools, and in the streets.
You are missing from the lips
Of people that I meet.

You are missing, I lamented.
I must make a call.
I must write a letter.
For You’re not here at all.

But then my mind once racing
Heard the still, small voice of God.
Talking through His Spirit,
As if to give a nod.

I was never missing.
I’ve been here all along.
I am in the trimmings.
I’m the reason for the song.

I never move.  I never change.
I’m like I was before.
The same today and yesterday
And forevermore.

It’s just that you lost sight of Me.
Many things are piled high.
Things of such importance.
Though their urgency’s a lie.

Clear away the rubble.
Sweep clean the cluttered floor.
Smell the Breath of Spirit
As it wafts in through the door.

I am your Servant Savior.
I will wash your dirty feet.
I long to have you dine with Me.
I will serve. Come take a seat.

Turn down the volume of the din.
Turn up your hymns of praise.
The volume of your life is Mine.
To Me your voice will raise.

The clutter is so empty.
It is life under the sun.
You will find your meaning
In the Son, the Holy One.

I found You in the stillness.
But I never really knew.
That when the world gets quiet.
Only then, can I hear You.

The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
(1 Kings 19:11-13)

Precious Lord Jesus…thank you for the whisper of You.
