Technology

I am relatively new to the iPhone.
My other phone was a flip phone very similar to what Captain Kirk used on Star Trek.
…the original Star Trek.

It was time to replace it.
The phone was on its last legs.
My husband had been encouraging me to get an iPhone.
He won out…and I’m so glad he did.

What intrigues me, however, is the auto correct feature.
It is no secret that I love words.
I don’t even mind looking words up in the dictionary.
Yes…the ACTUAL dictionary.

I am amazed that my iPhone can intuit what I want to type in a text message.
Sometimes…

I was going back and forth with my son, who is back at law school, and for the life of me, I cannot imagine what I was typing that the auto correct decided I meant to type Peru.
I have never been to Peru…do not plan to go to Peru.
Yet that is what it decided I wanted to say!

I do appreciate the fact that contractions magically appear.
Proper names automatically get capitalized…except God…which stays lower case!

I often wondered, as I read the Little House On The Prairie books to my girls, what Laura Ingalls Wilder felt about the exponential changes she saw in her lifetime.
She wrote about many of them.
I would like to have picked her brain and talked to her about how she felt when the first train rolled through…electricity and indoor plumbing became a reality…the telephone closed geographical gaps.

Things move at such a rapid pace.
We are not showing our age when we are astounded at the advancement of technology.
We should be astounded.

At that time Moses was born, and he was no ordinary child. For three months, he was cared for in his father’s house. When he was placed outside, Pharaoh’s daughter took him  and brought him up as her own son. Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action. (Acts 7:20-22)

Educated by the nation that would enslave His people, God placed Moses in the presence of Pharaoh so His Glory could be clearly seen…and His people could be delivered.
Moses was trained in the culture that God would soon judge.
His training equipped him for the task God placed before him.

The king ordered Ashpenaz, chief of his court officials, to bring in some of the Israelites from the royal family and nobility, young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace.  He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians...To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning…And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds. (Daniel 1:3,4, 17)

In the midst of a pagan culture, Daniel refused to bow his knee to anyone but the Most High God. Even in the service of a pagan king, Daniel never compromised his faith.
He was thoroughly trained…his wisdom surpassing the wise men of Babylon.
Daniel’s wisdom was of the Lord.

Technology and innovations, in and of themselves, are not the problem.
God has used the training and technology of pagan cultures to advance His Kingdom.
He did it then.
He does it now.

The technology at our disposal enables us to share the Gospel.
One click and our words go forth.
One click and His Word goes forth.

So is My word that goes out from My mouth: it will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:11)

We have the world at our fingertips…how are we advancing the Kingdom?
Are we being productive with our time?
How are we using technology for His Glory?

Lay hold of My words with all your heart; keep My commands and you will live. Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget My words or swerve from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, she will watch over you. Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though is cost you all you have, get understanding. (Proverbs 4:4-7)

Send a message.
Spell check…auto correct.
Use technology for Him.
G-O…T-E-L-L
All to His glory!
