Without Power
Posted in Faith 4 Comments
I sit here ready to write…wondering if this will even get read.
We are waiting for the hybrid storm…Sandy…to hit the East Coast.
There will probably be power outages…everything will be put on hold until power resumes.
I am also sitting here trying to type with a painful shoulder.
A pulled muscle, inflammation…pain.
No power.
Pain.
Somehow the two go hand in hand.
I am going to send you what My Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high. (Luke 24:49)
How often do we refuse to “stay in the city”?
How often do we go out “undressed” without the power from on high?
We may be quite a few days without power in this storm.
Things we take for granted will be impossible to do.
Shower, use the computer, watch a movie, cook.
My painful shoulder.
Things I take for granted are not easily done.
Getting dressed, reaching for things, lifting my right arm, typing.
Power cut off…at least temporarily.
We adapt.
We read by candlelight…we eat sandwiches…we go to bed earlier.
I do things with my good arm, ask for help when I need it, type a bit slower.
Our life in Christ is no different.
We, as believers, are clothed with His Righteousness.
We, as believers, are clothed with power from on high…the Holy Spirit.
Going out without our “power clothes” on can be disastrous.
Without power from on high, we go out in our own strength…work in our own ability.
We are not fully dressed…we are vulnerable…exposed.
In Him…in the power of the Holy Spirit, there is still work to do.
But that work is powered, energized, sustained by Him.
It is the help we need.
The help we need to ask for.
I can do everything through Him who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13)
We are impotent without His power…ineffective…fruitless.
With Him we can do all things…not for our glory…but for His.
We can cause much pain when we go out in our own strength.
We do things we have no right to do.
We may think they are the right things…but they are not His things!
Clothed with power from on high, there is joy in what we have to do.
We are doing it for a greater purpose.
We are doing it for Him.
I will think of His Power as we lose ours.
I will think of how I want to stay connected to the Power Source.
I don’t want to be off His grid for one minute.
I pray the pain in my shoulder lessens with each passing day.
I pray that I will be able to resume my normal activities without pain.
Yet, pain comes with the Fall.
Pain keeps us very close to Him as we look to Him for strength and ability.
Pain brings us to our knees…as we ask Him for power.
Power comes when we are connected to Him…our Source.
The two go hand in hand.
Lord Jesus, I need you.
Many of us…on the East Coast need you.
We need Your protection.
Lord Jesus…we know who You are…even the wind and waves obey You.
Lord Jesus, calm this storm.
We ask…believing that You can turn this storm out to sea.
Only You…with a Word…can silence it.
Lord Jesus…in Your powerful name…hear our humble prayers.
Amen.
Stay safe, Gina – as well as your family. Feel better!
Thank you, Barb.
Today is a better day.
You stay safe, as well…you are in my prayers.
Gina
Gina, now I feel better prepared for what’s coming. “Off His grid”…that’s perfect. I hope your pain subsides dear friend, am praying for you.
Sherie,
Thank you friend…I am on the mend.
You have been on my mind and in my prayers…often.
Be safe in the storm.
Gina
