Senseless Tragedy
Posted in Poetry 3 Comments
There’s an eerie silence, Lord
All across the land.
People are asking Why, Lord?
Where is Your loving Hand?
Why is there so much violence?
Why is a gun the tool?
Why are tears the status quo?
What about the Golden Rule?
What have we forgotten, Lord?
What can we put in place?
What new rules to implement?
Can we talk face to face?
I know that You are watching, Lord.
I do know that You care.
We need justice quickly, Lord.
It really isn’t fair.
Why do the wicked prosper, Lord?
They move along with ease.
Are we following You for nothing, Lord?
Can You give me an answer, please?
Many people are crying, Lord.
Many are in despair.
Many want to understand.
Want a hug that says, I care!
I know You from Your precious Word.
Your ways are not our ways.
Brokenness all around us, Lord
Confusion inside this maze.
You are with us in the tragedy.
You are with us in the storm.
You are with us in the whisper.
You were with us as we formed.
You never leave our side, Lord.
But today, we just can’t see!
We need a clearer picture
Of the way it’s meant to be.
One day mighty lions
Will lie down with the lambs.
One day sin will be no more.
We’ll all walk hand in hand.
One day we’ll finally see Your face.
It will all be clear.
You tell us in Your Word, O Lord.
My child, have no fear!
We need You to restore us, Lord.
Need You to make us new.
Take our eyes off all this evil, Lord.
Turn our eyes to only You.
We have many questions, Lord.
We will never comprehend.
The ONLY answer is You, dear Lord.
The beginning and the end.

My heart is heavy in response to the horrific tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.
It is hard to get my mind around the shooting of children.
It is hard to get my mind around the violence.
How we need the Lord!
It is a parent’s worse nightmare…to lose a child.
God the Father, knows how that feels.
There are no programs that will be foolproof against this kind of tragedy.
There are no government officials with the solution.
There is nothing that we can put in place…on our own…that will end this evil.
There is only Jesus.
Jesus…the One who saves.
Sin separates us from God.
The chasm between us is too great.
We are on one side of the divide and God is on the other.
God provided a way…a way back to Him…if we believe and trust in Jesus alone.
He sent His Son to die on the cross.
Jesus died, and was buried, and rose again three days later.
Jesus, the firstfruits.
The cross fits perfectly over the divide.
The cross is our bridge back to the Father.
Jesus is the Way.
Jesus is the way back Home.
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a Light has dawned…For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing it and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. (Isaiah 9:2,6,7)

Father,
How we need you!
We pray for the families who lost their precious children in this senseless tragedy.
You know…You understand…You are here with us.
Emmanuel…God with us!
We need you now!
Gina, just so beautifully written…as only you can do!
You express my heart so very well…my heart weighs heavy these months in missing our Katelynn so very much…and now this recent tragedy in CT that has brought such brokenness to 27 families weighs heavy on my heart as well causing me to ask the same question again…why, Lord?…why? None of it makes sense. Why young innocent children leaving this earth before their parents and in such gruesome ways? We will never understand from this side of heaven…no explanation would satisfy us anyhow. But praise you, Lord God, that you hold to your promises…that you will never leave us or forsake us…even in the midst of tragedy. You are the God of all comfort who comforts us in our time of trouble…and you promise to ‘carry’ us through the storms of life as long as we will allow you to be our anchor. Especially at this time of year I thank you, Lord God, for the gift of your precious son, Jesus, who was born to us in order to die one day in our place so that we may have life eternal with you in heaven…forever. Thank you so very much for this wonderful promise that assures me of an eternal future with my daughter, Kate, one day.
May this promise penetrate the hearts of those who have been affected by the loss of their loved one in the Newtown, CT catastrophe. May you bring them to trust you as the only One worth trusting in this world of sin and may they inherit the sure and certain Hope that can carry them through the horrific storm they are experiencing. May your grace be ever real and sufficient for them at this time of such deep and painful loss and grief. Please be their all in all as you have been so lovingly to me as well. Thank you, Lord God. Amen.
My heart is breaking for these families, surround them Lord, engulf them with your love, protect them Lord. It is too difficult for us to understand
And all God’s people said, “Amen.”
