Faithfully Watching
Posted in Faith Leave a comment
I had to do a double take!
I came out of the store and saw the oddest sight!
I thought it was a person waiting for someone in the store.
Taking a closer look, it was a large dog sitting in the driver’s seat of a car.
His front paws were on the steering wheel.
He saw me and began to bark.
I just happened to be parked right next to him.
As I got into my car, the dog left his post and came over to the passenger side.
He continued to bark.
I sat there for a minute watching people come out of the store.
I wondered if I could pick out the owner of both the car and the dog.
No one approached the car.
The dog went back to his post…watching and waiting.
It was one of those sights that look so absurd.
So absurd…it was actually funny!
Did I really see that?
I will wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for morning, more than watchmen wait for morning.
(Psalm 130:5,6)
Am I like the faithful dog I saw today?
Am I sitting at my post waiting faithfully for my Master?
Do I have a voice when intruders are near?
At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five of them were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight the cry rang out: “Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!” Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, “Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.” “No”, they replied, “there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.” But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins that were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. Later, the others also came. “Sir! Sir!” they said. “Open the door for us!” But he replied, ” I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.”
Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
(Matthew 25:1-13)
So many times God tells us in His word to Watch and Pray.
Do we take His command seriously?
If someone saw us, would they do a double take?
Would they see us faithfully at our post…waiting for our Master to come back?
Go post a lookout and have him report what he sees…let him be alert, fully alert.
And the lookout shouted, “Day after day, my lord, I stand on the watchtower; every night I stay at my post. (Isaiah 21:6a,7b,8)
Now is not the time to sleep.
Now is not the time to be lazy.
Now is not the time to be unprepared.
Now is the time to be steadfast.
Now is the time to be strong in the Lord.
Now is the time to study God’s Word and seek His will.
Now is the time.
Watch and pray.
Stay alert at your post as you wait for your Master.
Yes, I am coming soon.
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
We are waiting…
