The Server Is Down

Posted in Prayer | Leave a comment

All day long, as I sat down to write my blog post, the server was down.
The site was too busy…temporarily unavailable…so the error message said.
How frustrating.
The server was down.

I wrote the post in a document, to be saved, and published later.
Inconvenient to be sure!

Late in the day, before I get dinner ready, is always a good time to write.
By that time, I have experienced a good portion of my day.
There are always things in my day that point me to Him.

My youngest daughter has an honors English class, which had an interesting discussion the other day.
The question was posed, What do you wonder about?

Some wondered, Is this real…or are we living in a dream?
Others wondered, Do we all see the same color? Do we perceive color the same way?

I told my daughter that I had a teacher in high school, in my honors English class, who asked us to ponder the concept of time.
Is this the future? No, THIS is the future. No, this MUST be the future.
He would say that as he hopped in increments across the front of the room.

My daughter and I talked about how time is something God designed for our benefit.
God is outside of time.
He always was…always is…always will be.
We are the ones tethered to time and space.

Pondering often makes us shake our head in bewilderment.
We are forced to tumble things in our mind.
Those tumbling thoughts inevitably lead us back to HIM.

Imagine if talking to God gave us an error message: Server is down.
Imagine our disappointment if we were notified: Script is not responding.
Imagine our unbelief if we read: Too busy, temporarily unavailable.

What we long for is a relationship with God.
We can have that relationship with God through His Son, Jesus.
As with any relationship, it can be neglected because of lack of communication.
Communication with God is through prayer.

Prayer is not reciting words without thinking.
Prayer is not repeating words with no heart.
Prayer is talking to God.

Prayer is thanking Him, praising Him, telling Him about our struggles.
Prayer is sometimes asking Him for help.
Prayer is also siting quietly in His presence, not saying anything, but knowing that He is near.
Prayer is listening to God…not audibly speaking in our ear…but rather speaking to our heart.

God knows what we need before we ask Him.
God knows what is troubling us…what makes us joyful.
He knows our sighs and our pleas…even the things we can’t express.

Like any GOOD relationship, God wants to hear US tell Him everything we need to say to Him.

A mother often knows what her children are going to say to her.
We know our children so well.
We are NOT God.
We can’t begin to know things as perfectly and completely as He does.

We want to hear our children’s hearts.
It doesn’t matter that we have heard them a thousand times before.
Hearing their hearts, keeps us close to them.

It is the same with God.
We are His children and He is our Heavenly Father.
The relationship grows and deepens as we communicate.
God wants to hear our hearts.

God’s server is never down.
God is never unresponsive.
God is never temporarily unavailable.
God is never too busy.
God’s line of communication is never broken.

Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. (Jeremiah 33:3)

How comforting to know that we are heard.
God always hears us.
God’s answer to our prayer may come at a time, and in a way, we least expect.
But God’s answer always comes.

We are never put off.
Our prayers are never put in a draft folder to be answered later.

We use our computers and most of us have no idea HOW they work.
We talk to God in prayer and have no idea how He manages to hear and answer the prayers of His children.

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8,9)

Prayer is simply talking to God.
Knowing you are heard.
Knowing you will be answered…in His time and in His way.

Go to Him.
Talk to Him.
He is always there…ready to listen.
That is what a good Father does for His children.
