Our Life Can Be A Musical

Posted in Poetry | 4 Comments

Her little voice rang sweet and clear,
Across the aisle wide.
Her song, a real life story,
Her mother by her side.

The words did not have rhythm.
The words did not have rhyme,
The words recounted everything,
About how she spent her time.

What dresses she was looking at,
What food she had for lunch,
Which was her favorite ice cream,
Picking flowers in a bunch.

Things her brother did today,
She thought was kind of cute,
How she played her toy guitar,
And a song upon her flute.

All the while, her mother stood,
Oblivious to her tune,
Perhaps she’s heard it all before,
Perhaps she was immune.

I was surely mesmerized,
At her innocence and charm,
I prayed for her, that she would stay,
So pure and free from harm.

No wonder we’re to be like them,
The faithful little child,
Not our boring adult self,
With our lives so neatly styled.

If only we could sing through life,
A musical revue,
A step – ball – change…and then plie.
A toe dance on our shoe.

Our life would be a musical,
Choreographed with praise,
Orchestra conducted,
As we, our voices raise.

Joy-filled songs and lyrics,
The story of our life.
Putting it to music,
The happiness…the strife.

We could sing our story,
Just like the little girl,
The memories…the moments,
Are to us a priceless pearl.

Others will surely hear us,
As we tell our little tale,
Journeying towards heaven,
On this dusty, earthly trail.

Our life can be a musical.
That tells about His glory.
A grateful cast of characters,
That longs to tell His story.

When the curtain closes,
And He is in full view.
The Conductor lays down his baton,
For then the song is new!

One of my daughters has always said she wishes her life were a musical.
Dancing in the grocery store, or on the street.
Singing at just the right moment.

When I heard the little girl in the store, singing instead of talking, I smiled.
Wouldn’t it be nice?

How could you argue in song?
How could you bully in harmony?
How could you disagree as you danced into each other’s arms?

Our life as a musical may just be a dream.

Is it possible?

Praise the Lord. Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in His mighty heavens. Praise Him for His acts of power; praise Him for His surpassing greatness. Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet. Praise Him with the harp and lyre. Praise Him with tambourine and dancing, praise Him with the strings and flute, praise Him with the clash of cymbals, praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.
(Psalm 150:1-6)

A musical of praise to our Lord.
Using our body, our voice, and all we have, as instruments of praise.

We have a story to tell.
His story…from Genesis to Revelation.
His love letter to us.
That should cause us to sing!

How are we going to tell it?
With every ounce of our being!

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!

    • I know, Claire.
      I do, too, sometimes!
Let’s be intentional to sing a part of every day…just because.
      I love you.

      • Psalm #150 is one of the WOGS. I am hoping this will click me back on to your blog list. I tried entering my new email but still haven’t been receiving them– so good to get this from you.

        • Janna,
I look forward to hearing the songs that God lays on your heart.
I love the one you already sent me!
Keep praising Him with your songs.
