Help On The Side Of The Road
Posted in Evangelism Leave a comment
The story hit my eye.
A woman was on a desert highway in Utah and went into pre-term labor.
The driver and a friend called 911 as the first baby came into the world.
The mother was expecting twins, but not until August.
The babies were anxious to make their appearance.
No one ever dreamed they would come so soon.
No one ever dreamed they would be delivered on the highway.
The first baby, a boy, was spontaneously delivered.
A 911 dispatcher was talking the couple through this unexpected event.
Is the baby breathing or crying?
No…not yet...help him breathe...he needs air.
As the 911 dispatcher was alerting state police of the situation, she calmly gave directions.
Support the head and shoulders…tilt the head and give two puffs of air into the mouth.
The directions were followed and the baby began to breathe.
CPR was given for the next ten minutes until the state police arrived.
Two puffs of air into the mouth.
Life.
When the state police arrived they delivered the second baby boy.
The mini van turned into a delivery room.
Two boys, each weighing 3 pounds, born two months premature.
Both are doing fine, though they are expected to be in the hospital until August.
Help on the side of the road.
My husband was driving to work.
He spotted a young person stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire.
He got out to help him.
He asked the young man if he knew how to change a tire.
The driver said that he forgot how to do it.
My husband talked to him about the importance of knowing how to change a tire before he drives a car.
I am sure my husband made an impression on the young man.
Help on the side of the road.
Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road – the desert road – that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, the queen of the Ethiopians. The man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah, the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?”
“How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” so he invited Philip to come and sit with him. The eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture: “He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before the shearer is silent so He did not open His mouth. In His humiliation He was deprived of justice. Who can speak of His descendents? For His life was taken from the earth.” The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else? Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. (Acts 8:28-35, which includes Isaiah 53:7,8)
Help on the side of the road.
God ordained.
The right person at the right time meeting the other person right where they are.
Two puffs of air into the mouth…life.
Explanation and hands-on help…go forth.
Sharing the Good News of Jesus…salvation.
As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?” And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. (Acts 8:36-39)
The mother was interviewed later that day, after her twins were born.
They’re such miracles…they are fighters…they are strong.
The newscaster called it a blessed event.
Life is a blessed event.
Life is a miracle.
Who needs your help on the side of the road?
Who needs you to meet them right where they are?
Who needs to hear the good news of Jesus?
Pray for that opportunity.
Pray for that Divine appointment.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:19,20)
