Jet Lag
Posted in Evangelism Leave a comment
A friend of mine just got back from a mission trip to Haiti.
Her exuberance upon her return yesterday, was met with terrible jet lag today.
Her circadian rhythms have been disrupted; her internal clock has been disturbed.
Rest will repair her tiredness in a few days.
It is said that jet lag may last for several days.
It takes time to adjust to the new time zone.
Supposedly there is a recovery rate of one day per time zone.
It is difficult when the body’s clock is out of sync.
Night and day are mixed up; waking and sleeping are varied.
Times when you normally eat, you are now sleeping.
Our body likes its routines.
God’s people suffer from jet lag.
God’s people work diligently day in and day out, battling for the Kingdom.
Feverish work is being done while doing other things he has called us to do.
God’s enemies fight against the Kingdom.
Fighting those battles is their full time job.
Whether lobbyists, or special interest groups, they are tunnel visioned in their cause.
They are well funded, well supported, and relentless in their attempt to gain ground.
Fathers and mothers are taking care of their families while holding down other jobs.
They battle for the Kingdom part time on the front lines, yet full time in prayer.
They are no less effective.
They need fortification however.
Doing battle in God’s Kingdom is full time work.
That full time work does not have to be done by the same people.
That is the beauty of the Body of Christ; there are many others to come alongside.
I looked for a man among them who would build up the stone wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none. (Ezekiel 22:30)
No one warrior can do this job alone.
There are gaps in the Kingdom wall.
We need each other.
We need someone to stand in the gap; someone to relieve us when we are weary.
Standing in the gap is similar to a relay race.
You do your part and pass the baton to the next person running with you.
We get tired as we battle for the things of God.
It has been said that we should “work at the level of our own inadequacy”.
If we are unsure and feel ill equipped; then the Glory goes to HIM rather than to us.
The battle belongs to the Lord.
We have all that we need to fight.
We have the Holy Spirit who guides, and leads, and encourages.
We have the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God.
We have the Power of prayer.
We have the Lord Jesus interceding for us.
What a formidable relay team!
Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and us!
We are already victorious!
Why do we forget that?
Why do we live a defeated life?
Preach the Gospel to yourself as you go into battle.
Jesus loves me so much, He died for me and He rose again three days later.
In His sacrifice alone is where I place my hope.
When I believe that there is nothing I can do on my own to earn my salvation, I run to the cross of Christ and place all my trust in the finished work of my Savior.
I am fortified.
I am ready for battle.
I am weak in the knees, yet I am strong in the Lord.
I am tunnel visioned in my Kingdom cause.
I am well funded with Glorious benefits, well supported because the Holy Spirit indwells me, and relentless in my attempt to gain ground for the Lord Jesus.
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. (Psalm 24:1)
We can battle for God’s Kingdom as we do other things He has called us to do.
Part-time battlefield…Full time prayer warrior.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)
Stand in the gap along the Kingdom wall.
Help each other in the battle.
We are well equipped…and have already won!
Let’s act like it!
