Uninvited Guest

Posted in Poetry | Leave a comment

A shooting at the Navy Yard,
No one knows the reason,
Violence in the halls of school,
No matter what the season.

Drive by shootings, overdose,
Slavery you don’t mention,
Runaways and homelessness,
Around you, so much tension.

No one knows just what to think,
There’s room enough for all.
Everything is relative.
The Truth no one recalls.

You invite in all opinions,
You back slap newest trends.
You high five things to go along,
Try hard to make amends.

You dine with whoever can get you ahead,
You listen to all for advice,
You stand for nothing, yet fall for all,
You only know how to play nice.

Play nice is not enough anymore,
When it’s simply a game of charades,
When between the lines is spotlighted.
When black and white simply fades.

You sit around tables discussing,
The way it was meant to be,
Everyone has their places,
Everyone, that is, except Me.

I AM the answer to questions,
Yet I AM the one you detest,
I AM the Lord and Redeemer,
I’m your Uninvited Guest.

You ask where I AM when there’s sadness.
You ask where I AM when there’s death.
You ask where I AM when confusion sets in,
Will you ask as you take your last breath?

I have been there with you, never leaving,
I have loved you with all of My heart,
I sent My Son, Jesus, to show you the way,
But you thought you were much too smart.

I’ve invited you to My Banquet,
I will dress you in clothes that are best,
You ignore My invitation,
I’m the Uninvited Guest.

I was at the towers as they crumbled,
I was in the school as you cried,
I am on battlefields and in trenches,
I am always by your side.

You acknowledge those that can’t help you.
You make friends it seems on a whim,
You point your finger right at Me.
Who invited Him?

We may think that a political party will save us.
We may think that we need a great orator to convince the nations.
We cajole and coddle the special interest groups that will get us the results we want.

All the while, we kill babies and turn our heads.
We redefine marriage and family, like a topiary that is grotesquely misshapen.
We chip away at the foundations that we have stood on for so long.
We have taken prayer out of schools and the Bible out of the hands of people.
We have pushed God out of our daily lives.

We give God this little Sunday corner over here.
The other six days are ours!
We read self-help books and listen to celebrities expound on what is true for them.
Yet, we never read TRUTH for ourselves.

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” (Psalm 14:1)

We brag that we have never said that; but have we lived it?
Have we lived our life as if THIS world is all there is?
Have we lived our life as our own Lord?
Have we looked to something or someone else to be our savior?

Jesus IS Lord.
God the Father determined that.
We don’t make Jesus anything.
We are arrogant to surmise that we do.

How dare we treat God as the Uninvited Guest!
Look at where that has gotten us!

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with Me. (Revelation 3:20)

Is God in your Sunday corner or is God the Guest of Honor in your life?
