Did God Really Say?

I am partial to full moons.
I have always been amazed at their beauty.
I will stop what I’m doing as I’m getting ready for bed and gaze up at the moon.
The balcony off of our bedroom beckons.
Many evenings I will open the door just to see the masterpiece before me.
The silhouette of the trees in the light of the moon makes me wish I could paint pictures.
Everything is illuminated with a silvery glow in the moonlight.
Simply exquisite.
The skylights in our bathroom allow me to see the stages of the moon.
Every night as I get ready for bed, I notice that the moon is in a different place.
We forget that as we stand on this solid earth, we are moving.
The earth rotates on its axis as it revolves around the sun.
And we feel nothing.
The Earth orbits the sun and the moon orbits the earth.
It takes 24 hours for the earth to rotate on its axis.
It takes 28 days for the moon to orbit the earth.
The moon is in synchronous rotation with Earth.
That means we always see the same face of the moon.
We, on earth, never see the dark side of the moon.
Gravity holds us down on this spinning planet.
We don’t even have to think about it.
Our feet are firmly planted on this spinning, rotating earth.
There is a Creator God that holds all these things together.
The God who spoke the universe into existence.
People who do not have a Biblical worldview will say that the earth is billions of years old.
The Bible tells the story of a very young earth; only about 6,000 years old.
You will be laughed at if you say that in the public square.
To believe in a very old earth, you have to believe in one false premise.
You must believe in Uniformitarianism.
Uniformitarian thinking believes that things in the past occurred much the same as they occur in the present; everything is as it was since the beginning.
The Bible says something much different.
First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is the coming He promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s Word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for a day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. (2 Peter 3:3-6)
Two major events to consider: Creation and the Flood.
Both events are told in the book of Genesis.
God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water. God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. God called the expanse “sky”. And there was evening and there was morning the second day. And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land” and the gathered waters He called “seas.” And God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1: 6-10)
Time went on and sin entered the world.
The man and woman that God created and called “very good” wanted to be like Him.
They doubted God’s Word.
Did God really say? (Genesis 3:1)
The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time…I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. But I will establish My covenant with you, and you will enter the ark, you and your sons and your wife and your son’s wives with you. You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you…Noah did everything just as God commanded him. (Genesis 6:5,17-19,22)
On that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. And the rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights. (Genesis 7:11,12)
The Flood was, in essence, a global tsunami.
The water above and the water below burst forth.
All life was destroyed.
All life except Noah and his family and the animals that were with him.
That cataclysmic Flood drastically altered life.
The Flood, in the days of Noah, totally restructured the surface of the earth.
Did God really say?
People say that they need proof of the Flood.
If only they could find the ark that is to be somewhere on top of Mt. Ararat. (Genesis 8:4)
We have current cataclysmic events that are an analog for Noah’s Flood.
Mt. St. Helen’s volcanic eruption in 1980 is one such event.
In a matter of hours, a great deal of volcanic devastation occurred, but most of the damage was done as the glaciers on the mountain’s peak melted and descended catastrophically to the plains below. As that melted ice cascaded down the mountain, it removed trees, boulders and animals. It eroded canyons and uprooted the forest. I short, it ravaged the entire area…These dynamic water processes added to avalanche and air-fall deposits…of stratified sediments, containing dead plants and animals, some of which are now fossilizing. In a very short period of time, widespread and thorough devastation reworked a vast area. (taken from Footprints In The Ash by John Morris and Steven A. Austin)
Our post-diluvian world is NOT as it was since the beginning.
God made a covenant with Noah.
Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the whole earth. (Genesis 9:11)
God put His rainbow in the sky as a sign of His covenant.
God provided salvation for Noah and his family in an ark.
God has provided salvation for all who believe, in His Son, Jesus.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
Did God really say?
YES, He did!
