The Eagle’s Nest
Posted in Faith 2 Comments
It was said in passing.
My friend talked about an eagle’s nest.
My friend actually saw the eagle’s nest.
My friend actually saw the baby eagles.
I was intrigued.
The nest was not too far away.
My friend saw the nest on the bike route she takes on her afternoon ride.
I listened as she described what she saw.
The nest was on a country road in the land of Amish buggies.
The nest was in a dead tree.
The dead tree was in the center of a clump of live trees.
The nestĀ was high up in the branches; it was quite large and intricately made.
The day my friend saw the nest, another woman was on the road as well.
Binoculars were needed; however the other woman had a telescopic camera lens.
My friend called the baby eagles, teenage eagles, since she saw their wing span.
I thought I was looking at a pterodactyl, she exclaimed, their wing span was that large.
The other woman, with the telescopic camera lens told about her previous visit to the nest.
I saw the mother bringing food to the nest, the woman said.
I watched as the mother eagle dropped a whole chicken into the nest for her babies.
I tried to envision this as my friend told me the woman’s story.
Can you imagine the carcasses and bones inside the nest? My friend asked.
I shuddered at the thought.
I was thinking more about the farmers nearby who lostĀ their chickens in one swoop.
I was imagining the meal that a whole chicken would provide the baby eagles.
After getting directions, I drove to the spot.
I knew the road well from my excursions to Amish country.
There was no one on the road the day I went to see the eagle’s nest.
I pulled over to the side of the road, right after a lush corn field.
I brought my binoculars.
I saw the dead tree in the clump of live trees.
I saw the massive circular nest high up in the branches.
It was intricately made; it was secure within the V shape of the high branches.
I said a shooting arrow prayer.
Father, would you allow me to see an eagle today?
I wanted to see the mother eagle come to the nest.
I wanted to see the baby eagles trying to fly and stretch their wings.
I did not see the mother eagle.
I did not see the baby eagles trying to fly and stretch their wings.
I did not see a whole chicken being dropped into the nest.
However, I did see what looked like three white heads poking up from time to time.
That little glimpse thrilled me.
They were there, safe in their nest, high up in the dead tree, in the clump of live trees.
They were alive, resting on the bones and carcasses that inevitably lined the base of the nest.
They were waiting.
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isiah 40:31)
Those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength.
Is this what we look like when we wait on the Lord?
Do we resemble the baby eagles?
Will we one day soar?
We sit on the bones and carcasses of this fallen world.
We pop our head out from time to time, hoping to see a glimpse of the One we long to see.
We wait.
Sometimes, we wait a long time.
But He comes.
He always comes.
He always provides.
He always tenderly cares for us.
One day, He will come back.
One day, all eyes will see Him.
One day, the waiting will be over.
One day, we will see Him face to face.
But now, we have to peer into the sky with a limited view.
We have to squint our eyes against the sun, hoping to get a glimpse of Him.
One day, He will lift us up on eagle’s wings and carry us safely Home.
We are not to grow weary; we are not to grow faint.
Waiting is hard work.
While we wait, we are nestled in His loving arms.
While we wait in this fallen world, a glorious sight will one day be in view.
One day, the One we are waiting for will come back.
Maranatha. Come Lord Jesus.
I love this! We can learn so much from nature…there was an eagle’s nest not too far from me–there was also an “eagle cam” so viewers could see into the nest om their computers. It was wonderful to see the little ones grow. I think God sees all of His world like this–sometimes happy with us and sometimes very sad/ hoping we’ll grow in the right way.

Sue,
How wonderful you got to see into the nest near you through the eagle cam. It is wonderful to see the beauty of God’s creation. Imagine the view God has of everything He has made.
