The Shape Behind The Blinds
Posted in Faith 4 Comments
My son, daughter-in-love, and two granddaughters were here for the weekend.
They came a few days before Easter.
It was lovely to have the extra time with all of them.
My oldest granddaughter came through the back kitchen door with a wide smile on her face.
Hi, Grandma, she said happily after knocking on the door, which is too heavy for her to open.
I’m sleeping over at your house! She said joyfully.
You are, I agreed.
I’m so excited about that! I said and I meant it.
She went immediately into the family room to get her favorite toys.
Her Mommy and her almost one-year-old little sister were next.
Her Daddy came in behind everyone else, carrying some suitcases.
Hugs were given all around, even their dog was glad to be here.
Dinner was already in the oven, timed for their arrival.
They settled in as I watched the soon-to-be walking almost one-year-old get around.
She scoots instead of crawls; yet, I never saw anyone get around as fast as her.
Her Mommy scooted the same way and her daddy, my son, army crawled.
Dinner with sweet conversation was enjoyed.
Playtime on the floor with Pop-Pop followed dessert.
Soon, it was bedtime.
As expected, I heard, I want Grandma to put me to bed!
Music to my ears.
A book from Grandma’s library, a song, prayers, and a kiss goodnight would follow.
I just bought a comfy chair for the “big girl” room.
The chair is for me; since kneeling on the floor beside the bed, when I read, is uncomfortable.
The big girl beds can be bunk beds; however, we have them separated on the floor.
One bed has a built in guardrail, while the other has a guard rail much like a soft bed roll.
It is difficult for the person reading (me) to comfortably sit on the bed.
We sat on Grandma’s new reading chair and then she climbed into bed.
Since it is getting darker a bit later each night, some light was coming in through the blinds.
My almost four-year-old granddaughter lay her head back on the pillow.
She had her pillow propped up a bit.
She looked straight ahead at the double window that was before her.
Look, Grandma, a cross!
I looked in the direction she was pointing and sure enough there was an outline of a cross.
She sighed a contented sigh.
It reminds me of Jesus, she said in a tired little voice.
It IS a cross, I agreed, noticing it for the first time.
How wonderful that the cross reminds you of Jesus.
Jesus loves you so much and He is always with you.
It made my heart sing to hear her tell me what that shape looked like to her.
How does it do that, Grandma? She asked pointing to the shape behind the blinds.
The line down the middle is the line between the two windows, I told her.
The line going across is where the two windows lock, I said moving my hand.
You were the first one to notice this, I told her, so grateful for her perspective.
He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. (1 Peter 2:24)
My little granddaughter sighed a contented sigh again with her head on the pillow.
There was such comfort in her little heart at the sight of that shape behind the blinds.
I said a silent prayer of thankfulness for her mommy and daddy who are teaching her so well.
Jesus is known; His Word is read in their home.
I pray that the Word of God takes root in her little heart.
I pray that she (and my other grandchildren) will come to know Jesus early in life.
I pray that the cross will be a place of hope, because the sinless Savior died in her place.
I pray that Jesus is seen in the littlest things and that she sees glimpses of Him everywhere.
By His wounds we are healed.
When we trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we can sigh a contented sigh.
Life is still hard and we still sin, but His blood shed on the cross covers us.
In Christ, God the Father sees His Son’s righteousness rather than our sin.
Debt cancelled is metaphorically written across our foreheads.
Jesus took the punishment that was meant for us.
Jesus died so that we may live.
In Him, there is forgiveness of sin, which brings abundant peace, comfort, and joy.
Sigh.
sigh♥️
Amen.
Dear Gina, how sweet and how strong — to rest like your little one did, gazing at the cross that keeps her now and forever. Jesus is hers and she is His.
Michelle,
May I gaze at the cross with sweet peace and total comfort.
Oh, to have the faith of a child.
