An Order Of Faith
Posted in Faith 2 Comments
Did you ever ponder the amazing order in our world?
It is not something we routinely think about.
It is something we often take for granted.
As I was on my walk, a few large planes flew overhead.
I marveled at the ability to fly people from one place to another.
The plane’s resemblance to a bird was uncanny.
Why do I trust that the plane will stay in the sky?
We don’t think about these massive machines as they fly above us.
We trust that they will stay put up there as we live our lives down here.
Why do we stop at a red light and go when the light turns green?
Why do we still stop when it is late at night and no one is on the road?
Why do we wait for the pedestrian sign to flash before crossing a city street?
Why do we trust that a chair will hold us when we sit down?
Why do we drive up one side of the street and down the other side?
How do we know that water will come out of the spigot when we turn it on?
How can we be sure that the sun will come up every morning?
Why do we rely on the seasons being on time every year?
Why does 2+2 always equal 4?
Why does yeast make the dough rise?
Why do oil and vinegar never mix?
Why does water freeze at 32 degrees and boil at 212 degrees Fahrenheit?
Why do we trust that our heart will continue to beat?
How do we know the floor will be there when we put our two feet on it in the morning?
Why is up, up and down, down?
How do we know the color red, or blue, or green, or yellow?
Why do geese always fly in a V formation?
How does gravity keep us tethered to this celestial ball that we live on?
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities, all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have supremacy. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood shed on the cross. (Colossians 1:15-20)
There is order in the world because God is a God of order.
His hand is over the universe that He created; He sustains the order that He designed.
If He removed His hand, if He looked away for even a second, there would be chaos.
Things still happen in this fallen world.
Floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes occur but on a limited scale.
It is not a global catastrophe.
Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, when I said, ‘This far you may come and no further; here is where your proud waves halt’? (Job 38:8-11)
This far and no further.
Order in the midst of the chaos that is part of this fallen world.
God’s hand is over all, holding, and sustaining all that He created.
We can trust that there is an order to things because we can trust God.
For God is not a God of disorder but of peace. (1 Corinthians 14:33)
Jesus holds all things together.
God promises.
We take that promise on faith.
Faith that the sun will come up, water will come out of the spigot, and seasons change.
Faith that planes fly safely above, 2+2=4, and our heart will continue to beat.
Trusting that red is red, up is up, and yeast will make dough rise.
Faith.
Trust.
Knowing that you can count on the One that you believe in.
Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1)
We can trust that there is an order to things because we can trust God.
God is a God of order.
Take notice of the order of God’s creation and be consistently amazed.
This is why I don’t understand athiests and unbelievers. Do they think all creation just
“happened”? That takes more “faith” than I have!
Sue,
I agree with you. It does take more faith to believe some of the incredible “explanations” that people use to explain what God has clearly spelled out in His Word. Our faith is a gift from God to trust Him and believe Him.
