To Be Found In A Crowd
Posted in Faith 2 Comments
It was the day of the sprinkle shower for my daughter-in-love.
She is due with her second child in a few weeks.
Her friends did all the planning.
I was delighted to be a part of her special day.
I have often heard the same “wish” at bridal showers.
It would be so nice to have another shower to replace sheets and towels.
It is always said tongue in cheek, but if truth were told, those sentiments are slightly true.
It would be nice to replace those kind of things a few years into your marriage.
This sprinkle shower was organized to bless my daughter-in-love.
Her first little girl will be three-years-old right before the baby arrives.
It is always a blessing to be given diapers and wipes, since they are used daily.
It is always a blessing to have new Onesies and sleepers, since they get stained so easily.
My daughter-in-love got all those things and more.
She got adorable outfits along with a basket that had pampering items just for her.
She was loved on all afternoon.
She was prayed over.
Towards the end of the shower, my son came with my little granddaughter.
I was sitting on the other side of the room.
There were many people between me and her.
I wanted to give her time to come in and adjust to all the people in the room.
She stood there.
I saw her look around the room.
She looked at the sectional filled with her mommy’s friends.
She looked at the high backed chairs that many of us were sitting on behind the sofa.
We were all facing the mother-to-be.
She glanced at all the faces and our eyes met.
Grandma! She exclaimed loudly.
She weaved her way through the women, came right to me, and sat on my lap.
Grandma! She said again, melting my heart as she placed her head on my chest.
It was one of those moments you want to freeze frame.
It was one of those moments that you cherish in your heart.
It was unscripted, unprompted, and so sweet.
We cuddled on that chair.
Grandma hug, she said and I knew what she meant.
It is something we do together when I envelop her in my arms and squeeze.
Grandma hug, we say as she throws herself against me time after time.
I remember hearing, aah, so sweet, as she found me in the crowd.
None of that mattered.
My little granddaughter found me in a sea of faces and ran over to me.
For that instant, we were the only two people in the room.
And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’” And he looked around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” (Mark 5:25-34)
I can see the woman weaving through the crowd to get to Jesus.
If I could just touch His cloak, I will be well.
Imagine all the faces she had to pass to get to the One face she came to see.
Imagine all the people she had to walk by just to get close to Him.
Jesus wanted to know who touched Him, since He knew that His power had healed her.
I can see her carefully coming towards Him.
Being near Him was more important than anything the crowds might say to her.
She fell at Jesus’ feet in gratitude because she knew she had been healed.
There was no one else in the crowd she wanted to see.
There was no one else in the crowd she wanted to be near.
I see her there with Jesus.
It warms my heart.
It’s funny how God uses things in our life to know Him better.
It’s amazing how the littlest thing can make God’s Word even clearer.
I was found in a crowd by my granddaughter.
It was so wonderful.
Beautiful analogy, Gina. Thank you!!!
Thank you, Susie! God shows us things in the simplest things!
