The Doorbell
Posted in Faith 2 Comments
My husband installed a doorbell on our laundry room door.
It sounds different from our main doorbell.
The different sound is quite helpful, since I know which door needs to be answered.
The interesting part of the newest doorbell is the fact that it has a camera.
That fact that it has a camera intrigues my husband.
However, I like another feature of the doorbell so much more.
Whenever motion is detected, the sound of wind chimes can be heard on our phones.
The detected motion is helpful when a package is delivered at either of our front doors.
The detected motion is helpful whenever someone is walking on the front walkway.
However, when my husband cuts the grass on the tractor, the chimes ring every time he passes by.
You can turn that sound off for a time, he told me.
I have no intention of turning it off for one hour while he cuts the grass.
It is a bit strange when we were away for the weekend and still heard the wind chimes.
We can see from the camera whether it was a delivered package or a person at the door.
Interesting technology to be sure.
One for which I am grateful.
My granddaughters try to fool us.
It started while ago, long before the new doorbell.
Whenever my daughter and son-in-love come over, my oldest granddaughter does the same thing.
Instead of coming through the garage and into the laundry room, she rings the doorbell.
She walks along the front walkway and comes up to the front door.
Since we have sidelights on either side of our front door, she is able to see inside.
The glass is patterned and beveled but it doesn’t stop her from stepping on the step to look.
She peers inside to see if Grandma and Pop-Pop are coming to answer the door.
It is so cute to see her little nose pressed against the glass.
She rings the doorbell once, then twice, and sometimes three times until she sees us.
Of course, we act surprised.
Of course. she is welcomed with a big, enveloping hug.
She has not figured out that we hear the sound of wind chimes as she walks past.
She has not figured out that we know exactly when she will ring the main doorbell.
I see her press against the sidelight glass and smile when she sees me.
I open the door and envelop her every time.
We had she and her two siblings for an overnight, since it was their parents’ anniversary.
The morning they came, I was ready.
I smiled as I heard the sound of the wind chimes, twice.
This day, she and her younger sister came to the front door.
There were two noses pressing against the beveled glass.
There were two smiles.
There were two enveloping hugs.
There was joy all around.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20)
Jesus does not want lukewarm followers.
He does not want a ho-hum attitude towards Him.
He is knocking and we act self sufficient and neutral towards Him.
Oh, what we are missing.
Oh, if we could only be like a child.
If only we walk with intention and purpose towards the door.
If only we press our noses against the metaphorical beveled glass to peer outside.
If only we get so excited when we see the face of Jesus wanting to come in.
Abundant life is ours when we are in Christ.
How can we be lukewarm?
How can we be neutral where the Lord Jesus is concerned?
Do you see Him; He wants to dine with you and me.
Come in, Lord Jesus.
Great reminder!
I needed the reminder as well, Paula!
