Courage
Posted in Daily Living, Poetry 2 Comments
Do we have the courage, Lord, to freely speak our mind?
Or are we made to feel afraid, wondering who’s behind?
Help us have the strength, Lord, to stand for what is right.
We often think the battle is just not worth the fight.
How do we even know, Lord, what You’re calling us to do?
Those out in the marketplace will question what is true.
So often, we Your people, Lord, put out the social fires.
We speak of don’t, and can’t, and won’t…rather than inspire.
We teach what walking with You is not…instead of what it is.
What it really means to follow You…the security it gives.
We cower in the corner, Lord…the battle rages on.
We sink in self-made quicksand…there’s a Rock we should be on!
We know what Your Word says Lord…we politely shy away.
We’d rather discuss the safe things…get through another day.
What do You think about that Lord? Do we make You smile?
Have we talked with You in prayer today…or has it been awhile?
Have we hid your precious Word, Lord, deep inside our heart?
Give a reason for the hope we have, when things are torn apart?
How will they ever know You, Lord…if we always look like them?
Will they know salvation’s priceless…a fine jewel…a precious gem?
Can we display what a marriage is, as we go about our days?
A man and woman side by side…there is no other way.
Will we stand for life, Lord…from the cradle to the grave?
When will we finally say, “Enough”? Oh, the many lives we’d save!
Can our “yes” mean yes…our “no” mean no? Do we count the cost?
Will our boldness, in adversity, help those who are so lost?
The enemy will intimidate…will make us feel unsure.
Our focus has to shift to what is right, and true, and pure?
We need courage in the fight for family, faith…and You.
Strength to stand upon Your Word…and all we know is true.
We need You in this battle, Lord…You told us we would fight.
You said we would have trouble, Lord…with You we’ll be alright.
Why does it seem the other side is gaining so much ground?
Why does Your Church seem silent, Lord…we never make a sound?
Help us find our voice, Lord…help us be like You.
Help us show a difference in all we say and do.
We cannot lay our Sword down…which is Your precious Word.
We must fight, with armor on…until everyone has heard.
One day, You will come back, Lord…the battle will be won.
And then we’ll hear You say to us…“My precious child…well done!”

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. (Ephesians 6:10-13)
Gina, this is an absolutely beautiful poem. Thank you!
You are welcome, Al.
All the praise goes to Him.
