Boot Camp

Posted in Bible | 2 Comments

I can relate to something one of my daughters said.

I wish the things I love would be healthy for me.
Some people like to run…some like to bike.
I like to read a book!

Funny thing is, she does exercise!
She belongs to a gym.
She is very active.
But I know what she means!

Plateau Place

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

I remember in Geography class there were so many terms to learn.
Island, peninsula, mountain, valley, plateau…
I always loved the word plateau.
I loved the way it sounded.

Looking up the definition, plateau means an area of relatively level high ground.
It also means a state of little or no change.
As a verb, it means to reach a state of little or no change after a time of activity or progress.

Concrete Writer

Posted in Bible | 3 Comments

There are many winding country roads where I live.
A friend from Colorado remarked, “They cleared just enough trees to build the road.”
She is right.
We have to share these winding roads with cyclists.

As I was driving today, a STOP sign made me smile.
Underneath, the red octagonal STOP sign was a white rectangular sign.
It read: That means bicycles, too!

I guess in our culture of redefinition, even our STOP signs need to be clarified.

Ellipsis

Posted in Bible | 5 Comments

I love to use the ellipsis.
It is a punctuation mark, made up of three evenly spaced dots used to indicate an omission of a word, sentence, or whole section of text being quoted.
It also can be used to indicate an unfinished thought…a trailing off into silence.

Anyone who has read anything I ever wrote, knows that I use the ellipsis often.
Usually for the latter reason.
I use it so the reader can complete the thought…taking you where God would have you go.

Push Pins

Posted in Bible | 2 Comments

I sit at my desk in my kitchen and write each day.
There is a bulletin board in front of me.
Dentist appointments, physicals, hair cut appointments, invitations.
Push pins.

Without my push pins, none of the reminders would stay up.
My push pins are an invaluable tool.

Hamburgers, Pancakes, and Spurgeon

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

No doubt, there was a lot of hamburger flipping today.
In our house, it is my husband’s job.
He is far better at the grill than I am.

I love to cook…everyone seems to enjoy the food I prepare.
I just cannot get the hang of grilling hamburgers…knowing when they are done.
Maybe I am intimidated by the gas grill.
I am used to my electric stove.

Solitary Time

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

I love people.
I find them so interesting.
I love to listen to their stories.
I love to hear about their families.
Talking to people invigorates me.

That being said, I also love my solitary time.
Time to think.
Time to reflect.

Worn Out Sneakers

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

Did you ever really look at people’s sneakers?
They are as unique as the people that wear them.

They are functional, yet often symbols of status, especially if there is a preferred logo on the side.
Some have neon colors so that you are seen as you run on the road.
Some have strange soles that don’t look like your traditional sneaker at all, yet promise to be the new high tech, shock absorbing marvel.

The Real Thing

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

When I was in college, I worked for a bank.
I worked part time during the school year and full time in the summer.

I loved my job and I loved the customers.
I even enjoyed the hectic rush every Friday.
That is when most people were paid, and they would come in on their lunch hour to get their paycheck cashed.
