Comparison

Imagine viewing the world through the eyes of a child.
So innocent…so pure…so trusting.
We can learn much from them.

I remember reading years ago about the way children see themselves at various ages.

Ask a room filled with preschoolers…who can draw?
Every hand will go up!
Who can sing?
Every hand.
Who can dance?
Hands in the air.

Mishaps

My daughter was walking behind me in the parking lot, as we were ready to get in our car.
Mom, what’s that on your shoe?
I looked…and saw a stringy mess.

Not gum…but Silly String!
I know…who walks in Silly String?
Apparently me!

Image Bearers

I love words.
I tell stories with words.
I paint pictures with words.

How I wish I could actually paint a picture…on canvas.
How I wish I could take a picture with my camera…the way I really see the world.

The Awakening

I listen for the Whispers of His Movement in the everyday.
Some days it is harder to hear those whispers than other days.
On days like that, the problem is with me…not with Him.

Today was one of those days.

Out Of The Mouths Of Babes

When my youngest daughter was preschool age, she had a unique way of describing things.
I was always fascinated by her view of the world.

Whenever we ate dinner in the dining room, instead of our long kitchen table with benches, she loved to see candles on the table.
One night, she just stared at the candle closest to her.
She had such a serious face.

The Leash

The mother sounded so rushed.
You could tell she was in a hurry.
Come on…let’s go…we have to pick up…
There were many things on her “to do” list.

She was not on the same aisle as me, but she was close by.
I wondered how she was ever going to get everything done.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw her…still talking about the rest of her day.
I still did not see the person she was talking to.

Real People

These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality; however, is found in Christ. (Colossians 2:17)

You’ll never find real people when you stand above them.
You’ll only find real people when you stand among them.

I wrote that down on a scrap of paper one day. I don’t even remember the circumstances that caused me to ponder that thought, but it has been tumbling in my mind ever since.

Cookie Cutter People

We have all heard the expression, out of the mouths of babes…
I was remembering just how true that statement really is.

My youngest daughter was about six years old and we were reading a book together.
Our conversation went down many rabbit holes, as it delightfully does when talking and reading to a child.
The book was about springtime and we discussed the fact the God created everything and how we are so glad He did.

Hot Air Balloon

It was one of those unexpected moments.
I was lost in thought during my walk this morning.
It was early…very quiet.
Suddenly, there was a sound like the rush of wind.
I turned and right above the tree tops was a beautiful hot air balloon.

Hot air ballooning is fairly typical where I live.
The rural setting provides many wonderful spots for take off and landing.
Usually, you will see the balloons in the early evening.

Dusting Floors

We have a lot of hard wood floors in our house.
I have always loved them…loved the warm color…loved the “country feel” in all the rooms.

They are also easy to clean.
I have a dust mop, that with a little spray, acts like a magnet…finding the dust that inevitably collects around the edges or in the corners.

What I never realized, until I had young children, was that the spray on the dust mop made the floors slippery.
The first time it happened was by accident.
Someone came downstairs in their socks, ran into the kitchen for breakfast and slipped on the newly dust-mopped floors.
