Altering The Dress

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

I am looking for a dress for my son’s wedding.
The wedding is in a few months, so I have time.
I have seen dresses I like as I look at my favorite stores online.
I have even ordered a few to try them on at home.

When my daughter got married two years ago, I found my dress online.
I saw it and knew it was the dress I wanted to wear.
It fit well but needed a few minor alterations.
I took it to the store, which does the alterations for you.

You Can’t Make Old Friends

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

This blog post is dedicated to my precious Old Friends:
Patti, Joan, Cathy, Sue, Julie, Andrea

I was remembering the street where I grew up.
I was thinking about my friends there and then listened to a new album.
A song on the album was about some of the very things I was thinking.
Needless to say, the song has been on repeat.

Why is is that we do not realize how special things really were until much later?
Why do we fail to see the significance of something in the present?
It seems to take moving away, growing up, and living a little before we understand.
Eventually, we understand.

Gift Giving

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

I remember hearing a statement many years ago.
Gifts are wasted on the young.
I bristled when I heard those words.
I did not agree with them.

The woman who said those words was talking about appreciation.
This woman felt that young people do not understand the gifts they have been given.
Young people, in her mind, think more of the here and now and not of the future.
Gifts that are not something they can enjoy now, tend to be dismissed.

A Sunday Only Kind Of Person

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

It was a morning of porch sitting.
A friend invited me over for a cup of tea and a morning on her front porch.
It was an easy invitation to accept.
There’s something about a front porch, a cup of tea, and a friend that just seems right.

My friend is a mother of eight children.
She has two sets of twins.
There are animals on the property, a beautiful vegetable garden, and quite a few out buildings.
The rooster made himself known all morning.

Life Lesson In The Waiting Room

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

This time of year is when many parents schedule appointments for their children.
With school over until August or September, mothers schedule dentist and doctor appointments.
My youngest daughter was no different.
She had a routine checkup scheduled.

I waited for her in the waiting room.
Our Doctor’s office is in the same building as an Urgent Care.
When you have an appointment with the doctor, you can pass through the other waiting room.
You can go right into the next room and go to another desk to check in.

Trail Of Help

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

I always asked to hear the story of Hansel and Gretel when I was a little girl.
I still have the same book that my mother read to me.
That book, with yellowed pages, was read to my children.
I know exactly where the book is on the bookshelf.

Even though I asked for the story to be read, it scared me a little.
I would cuddle a little closer.
I would cringe at the parts that bothered me yet for some reason, I still wanted to hear it.
I liked to look at most of the pictures.

Priceless

Posted in Daily Living | 4 Comments

It was the night of a special banquet.
This annual banquet supports our local crisis pregnancy center.
It is an amazing night to celebrate life.
It is an amazing night to remember the Giver of life and all His good gifts.

Even though I have been at the banquet before, this year was a bit different.
This year, my husband and I were invited to sit at our daughter’s table.
This daughter is expecting our first grandbaby.
This daughter is one the board members of this crisis pregnancy center.

Don’t Forget To Show Love

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

You never know when something is going to catch you by surprise.
Something that just makes you smile because of its sheer innocence.
Something that you wish you could wrap in a box and give to everyone.
Something that you want to share simply because you know it will be a blessing.

A friend shared something that I happened to see early in the morning.
It seemed like something I would enjoy.
I was not prepared for how very much it touched my heart.
It encouraged me and challenged me.

Honorary Grandparent For A Day

Posted in Daily Living | 4 Comments

The invitation was given to me weeks ago.
The day finally came.
The day that I was invited to be an honorary Grandparent for a special little boy.
This little boy comes to my house with his mom on our Bible study day.

This little boy has grandparents that live out of state.
It was not possible for them to come for this hour long event.
When his mom asked him if he would like to bring a special friend, he said that he would.
He wanted to ask me to be his special friend that day.

Occupied With Gladness

My husband always holds my hand.
No matter where we are walking, no matter how far, his hand always finds mine.
I have been married to him for thirty-six years now.
That is a lot of hand holding.

I don’t think about it, since it really is second nature to us.
I don’t think about it until someone else says something.
It always makes me smile when someone notices.
However, that is not why my husband does it.
