The Lesser Light

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

There it was in the sky.
There was nothing in my little girl brain that could comprehend what this might be.
A beam of light seemed to be spotlighting the heavens.
The light was moving back and forth.

What is that, Mom?
I don’t know, she said puzzled. Should we drive and find out?
I reluctantly said yes, wanting to know where the light came from yet still uncertain.
We set off on our quest.

Poking The Heart

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

I watched the short video.
I was not really expecting much as I clicked the play arrow.
Three preschool age children were in a discussion about the weather.
I was captivated.

Two little girls were adamant that it was raining outside.
One little boy was absolutely positive that it was just sprinkling.
They went back and forth; no one backing down.
They kept pointing to a window beyond our view to prove their position.

A Feather Pillow

You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. (quote attributed to Abraham Lincoln)

That quote has been stuck in my head.
In one short sentence a biblical concept is presented.
Walking the walk and talking the talk.

How easy it is for us to sound spiritual.
How easy it is for us to have others look at our lives and marvel.
How easy it is for us to hide behind a Godly mask.

Spam

Every day as I write my blog post I wonder.
I wonder who will read the next day’s post.
I wonder if the words God put on my heart will touch another heart, or two, or three.
I wonder, but I actually like not knowing.

When I schedule the post for the next day I leave my laptop; I walk away.
All I can do before I write, as I write, and after I write is pray.
Pray for the words to settle in the heart of a person who needs to read them.
Pray for the words of His Word to reach down deep and not return to Him void.

Life According To A Bench

Posted in Daily Living | 4 Comments

As unbelievable as it is, it happened.
A mini reunion.
High school friends getting together.
Not that unusual unless you think of the amount of time that has passed.

The love-hate relationship with social media became a real blessing in this case.
Girlfriends reconnecting.
The realization that we live fairly close to each other.
Then the invitation.

A Circle Of Comfort

I have a head cold.
A box of tissues is my constant companion.
A hot cup of tea is my comfort.
My nose looks much like Rudolph’s.

I was thinking about the movie, You’ve Got Mail.
The scene where Joe Fox visits Kathleen Kelly when she has a cold.
Along with having a cold, she had to close her book shop, the one her mother began.
The shop needed to close because of Joe and his mega-book store.

Thinking Of You

I opened an email from a good friend.
It made me smile just to see her name.
All it said was: THOUGHT OF YOU !!!
I had to scroll down to see what brought me to mind.

It was a Christian bloggers retreat.
A two-day conference in Asheville, North Carolina.
I read the description and it piqued my interest.
I looked at the dates and realized that it would not be possible, this time.

How Are We Doing?

I went to a very large high school.
There were 4,000 students in the school.
There were 1,000 graduating seniors.
We graduated Amy Apple to Zach Zebra, without reading each individual name.

Graduation caps were thrown in the air.
Tears were shed and hugs were given.
Many went off to college.
Others chose to go to work right after graduation.

Forgetting The Whispers

A dear friend from church came up to me when the church service was over.
I don’t want to make you feel guilty, but I missed your blog posts while you were away.
Others that were standing there answered before I could.
Oh, they were there. They were on the Facebook page.

I was touched that the whisperings I write about each day were missed.
It matters to me greatly, that God is using these simple words for His Glory.
I am amazed at the vast scope of the written word.
I am humbled by the power of the written word; hopefully always for good.

Holy Contrariness

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

We don’t have to look far to see something about an endangered species.
One group or another fighting to protect something valuable.
People get on their soapbox and fight to protect what is near and dear to their heart.
Do we take the time to ask what is near and dear to God’s heart?

Last fall, a favorite author of mine, Wendell Berry, granted a rare interview.
Berry is described as a visionary, author, and a Kentucky farmer.
During the interview, he read excerpts of his poems and essays.
In no time at all, it is easy to see where he stands.
