Blotches

Anyone that knows me well can tell you about my blotches.
That’s what I call them.
I get red very easily!

It doesn’t matter the reason.
Happy, sad, afraid, nervous, excited…
It’s all the same.

My barometer.
The determiner of my emotions.

The Skate Key

Did you ever think about how many things have become obsolete?
Quite a number of things have become obsolete in our lifetime!

If you had a record player, your records were either 33 LP’s or 45’s.
Songs were sold on a seven inch “single” record which had an A side and a B side.
If you played your 45’s on a standard record player, you had to have an adapter.

Multitask

We hear the term all the time.
Multitask.
The word may stir up positive or negative connotations.

Efficiency.
Too many plates in the air.

Remember the Ed Sullivan show?
Undoubtedly, there would be a performer on stage with plates on a tall sticks.
The performer would spin the plate and move to the next stick…the next plate.

Scavengers

Our trash day is on Wednesday.
We are required to put our trash out the night before because our trash men come so early.
I appreciate them and their dedication.
I usually see them on my walk and wave to them each week.

This weekend, because we had a picnic, we had more people and more trash.
The large trash bin wasn’t able to close properly.

Mishaps

I grabbed the new pair of jeans out of my closet.
They have that nice dark wash…no faded knees.
I cut off the tag and I was ready to go.

Until I got downstairs.

One of my daughters was in the kitchen.
You look nice, Mom…as I walked into the room.
Uh…Mom…You still have the tag on your jeans.

Tumultuous Peace

Moore, Oklahoma was hit by a terrible tornado.
The storm of all storms…the monster storm…it was called.
Miles of devastation.
Houses and buildings reduced to rubble that resembled matchsticks.

Stories of rescues and reunions.
Stories of bravery and determination.
Stories of things that happened in a matter of minutes.

The Caregiver

It takes a special person to be a caregiver.
Such dedication…such patience.
Often a thankless job.
A “fade in the background” position…except for the person in your charge.

I saw him in the men’s department.
His mind much younger than his body.
He was happy and talkative…though talking to no one in particular.

Perfect Fit

Returns.
They are frustrating.
The store is not the reason for the frustration, mind you.
It’s me!

I ordered two pairs of shoes online, in the correct size.
They were on sale.
They came…one pair was much wider than the other.
Thankfully, I was able to return them to the local store.

Only God

I pass the corner almost every day.
It was formerly a gas station with a small store to pay for your fill-up.
It has been closed for years.
Many people got their cars repaired and their state inspections done there.

An abandoned corner…literally across the road from the Brandywine River.
In this rural Chester County setting, cyclists and drivers share the road.
Fisherman catch what they can from the river, once the fishing season begins.

Riding In Tandem

As I was dusting, I glanced at it on the wall.
The old fashioned bike.
A velocipede.

Large wheel in the front, with small handlebars and a seat.
Small wheel in the back…looking almost too small to hold any weight.

I have a replica of a velocipede hanging on the wall of my living room.
It is right near our grand piano.
It is there because of my dream.
