Sweet Sleep

There is a chair that calls to me.
From behind me with a tap.
A cozy, comfy, “get lost in” chair,
Where I often take a nap.

Who doesn’t like a respite,
From all the worldly cares?
A place to put your feet up,
A place that’s always there.

Recharge Your Batteries

In this digital age, we have information at our fingertips.
Our phone is a computer and camera in addition to being a phone.
Our iPad and laptop holds our personal library and our favorite pod-casts.
Our iPod contains our entire music collection…in the palm of our hand.
We can connect to anyone or anything at any time.

Unless, our battery is low.
We have to recharge our batteries.

Silently Approaching

I put my packages in the back of the mini van.
I turned to put my shopping cart in the designated area.
I maneuvered the cart into position.
I started to walk back across the aisle to my car.

Out of nowhere, I looked up and saw a car right next to me.
I was stunned because I never heard it approaching.

Grumble Or Praise?

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

Anyone with young children in their lives has probably spent time reading to them.
If you have young children, you have probably read If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.
A small boy gives a mouse a cookie and the mouse wants a glass of milk to go with it.
When you give him a glass of milk, he’ll probably ask you for a straw…
This circular tale takes you from one thing to another and brings you back again.
It is a wonderful little story.

It was an If You Give A Mouse A Cookie day in my house.

No Distractions

I want to see You clearly, Lord.
But I really must confess,
That often things get in the way,
Even things called best.

I know I have a job to do,
A calling on my life,
Things block the view of what I’m to do.
They cause a lot of strife.

Bragging Rights

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

I saw a T-shirt today that made me pause.
May your life be as awesome as you pretend it is on Facebook.

The words may be a bit harsh…but they caused me to think.
What do the words say about us?

Normalcy

There he was on the sidewalk.
Long, disheveled hair…flying in every direction.
A coat that was still unbuttoned…flapping open…resembling a cape.
Pants…that were much too long…cascading over big boots.

He was walking…not watching where he was going…looking up towards the sky.
His arms were raised.
He was talking.
His movements were animated as he made large gestures with his hands.

Detours

Posted in Daily Living | 3 Comments

Did you ever have one of those mornings?
Nothing terrible.
Just…instead of going in a straight line…you go down lots of rabbit holes.

My husband had a four day weekend this past weekend.
He loves coffee.
I have never tasted coffee…have no desire to…don’t even like the smell.
He loves when I make him coffee.
So…I make him coffee.

What’s Important?

I was looking at the driver’s side of my mini van.
There are multiple scratches along the door.
Not terribly noticeable, but there nonetheless.

Whenever it is trash day, our trash cans have to be pulled out the night before.
The trash truck tends to come very early in the morning.
We keep the trash cans in the garage, so they have to be pulled out once a week.

Attention Must Be Paid

I will always remember one line in the play Death of a Salesman.
Attention must be paid.

How often we forget!

The weight of providing for a family day in and day out is enormous.
The provider lives between two worlds.
The world of work and the world of home.
These two worlds cannot be conflated.
They are vastly different.
