Joshua Perseverance

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

My son will be going back to college this weekend.
It is hard to believe that he will be a junior this year.
I admit to a bit of nostalgia.
It was only yesterday when he was getting on the bus with a backpack bigger than he was.

I still remember the little high top sneakers…the bucket hats he used to love to wear.
He loved his bike and his skateboard and playing basketball and football on the lawn.
All of that became secondary when he began his music.
Drums, guitar, piano…he made his own dulcimer…he has a djembe (an African drum).

Technology

I am relatively new to the iPhone.
My other phone was a flip phone very similar to what Captain Kirk used on Star Trek.
…the original Star Trek.

It was time to replace it.
The phone was on its last legs.
My husband had been encouraging me to get an iPhone.
He won out…and I’m so glad he did.

Eye Slave

I have no idea how it happened…but I was on Romper Room as a little girl!
It was a national TV show, but was syndicated in various cities.
Syndication…local show with local children in the classroom.
I was four years old at the time.

One Of Those Days

Ever have one of those days?
“Those days” just happen.
They are usually not welcome when they do.

It really was a lovely day…a bit busier than usual.
Teach Bible study, lunch with my daughter, go to a meeting…home.

The Vine

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

I love to look out my kitchen window.
There is a crepe myrtle tree blooming with lush pink blooms.
There are two lilac trees that emit a sweet fragrance all through the spring.
There is a butterfly bush where every day there are butterflies of all types and colors.

Under the crepe myrtle is phlox…a beautiful ground cover.
It is a sea of purple in the spring…lush green now.
I was outside and saw little specks of red throughout the phlox.
When I got down closer…the red specks were strawberries.

Fences

Did you ever think about the various types of fences?
Post and rail, picket, chain link, wrought iron, barbed wire, invisible dog fences…

One of our neighbors just got an invisible fence installed for their dog.
I was looking at all of the small, white flags going around the perimeter of their property.
Soon their dog will be trained not to go near those flags, which mark the buried wire.

The Nest

I was on my porch today and saw a bird flying back and forth.
I decided to watch for a bit.
It was a mother bird who had made a nest in one of my hanging plants.

There it was…perfectly made…perfectly hidden among the leaves.
When they were young, I always told my children not to touch a nest.
I always feared that the mother bird would not come back if the nest was disturbed.

Smorgasbord

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

This morning I took two of my daughters out for breakfast.
Anyone who lives in my area, knows about this wonderful smorgasbord restaurant.
It is always a treat to go there.

The restaurant is always filled to capacity…yet there is very little wait.
There is virtually any choice of breakfast, lunch, or dinner food you could imagine.

The High Dive

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

Growing up, I belonged to a swim club.
It was close to my house.
I could walk there.
In fact, I could see it from an upstairs window.

From that vantage point I couldn’t see faces but I could see umbrellas.
I knew where different people usually sat for the day, so if their umbrellas were up, they were already there.

The Light Of The Moon

There was the most incredible full moon last night.
I love to look at the moon.
I love the way the night is not really the night when the moon is full in the sky.

I can see silhouettes of the trees in my yard.
The branches play optical tricks on me as I look from one tree to another.
