Valet Parking

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

I was meeting three friends for lunch.
I went to grade school and high school with two of those friends.
We all met the other friend in high school.
So many memories are packed into our friendship.

The sign of a good friendship is being able to start right where you left off.
No need to explain or go back to chapter one.
Chapters of our lives have been shared along the way.
No need to see each other all the time, but when we do plan our visit, it’s as if we never left.

In The Fog

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

The fog was thick as I started out on my morning walk.
I had gotten an alert on my phone, warning drivers of limited visibility.
I was not driving, I was walking.
I knew these roads.

I set out.
Everything looked different.
Tinges of autumn color were peeking through the fog.
Nothing looked familiar to me.

Beautiful Debris

Posted in Faith | 4 Comments

The debris is all over my driveway.
The debris is all over the road when I go on my morning walk.
There is discoloration.
Long sticks are scattered about.

I hear them falling all throughout the day.
I know that anyone standing underneath would get a lump on their head.
They make a popping sound as I drive over them with my car.
Something so beautiful can be so messy.

Modernity In The Oddest Place

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

I had to run to Walmart.
I could go to one of two stores.
I chose the one with the shorter distance.
I chose the store taking country roads rather than the one where traffic lights abound.

I just had to make a quick trip inside.
I knew that I would be in and out.
I finished, got back in my car, and began to drive out of the parking lot.
I was on the road that runs perpendicular to the parking lanes.

A Mother’s Request

Posted in Faith | 2 Comments

It was a family weekend.
We were celebrating the second birthday of our granddaughter.
Her birthday was actually a month ago.
Her other grandparents live across the country and we wanted to celebrate with them.

Most of my daughter-in-love’s extended family lives in the Annapolis area.
That is where my oldest son and his wife stepped in with a wonderful suggestion.
They live in northern Virginia.
They kindly offered to host the birthday party for their little niece.

The Road Sign

Posted in Faith | 4 Comments

My two-year-old granddaughter was here over the weekend.
She stayed a few more days, which gave her Mommy and Daddy some time to themselves.
I brought her back home.
She loved riding in Grandma’s car.

She had her cup of milk in the cup holder of her car seat.
She had a little container of goldfish in the other cup holder.
I put on her favorite music, which made her smile.
I could see her in my rear view mirror.

Disconnect

In my heart, I am a gardener.
In reality, I am not.
I can take care of my hanging baskets and help them to thrive.
I know how to keep my mulch beds neat by pulling the weeds frequently.

It was when I was watering my hanging baskets on my side porch that it came to me.
I had my phone with me as I was on the porch.
I took a picture of the area about which I was thinking.
I can see the area from my porch swing or my bistro table.

Path Of Least Resistance

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

We received the recall letter many months ago.
We were told that the company would notify us when the part was available.
We were instructed to make an appointment with the service department at that time.
I felt a little uneasy when I read what part was being recalled.

A fuel pump on my mini van needed to be replaced.
I envisioned all sorts of things when I read that letter.
My husband assured me that there was nothing to be concerned about.
The car company knows of the potential problem and is taking steps to remedy it.

Rolling Marbles

Posted in Faith | 2 Comments

Two handmade toys in our house are quite popular with children.
They were both made by an Amish man.
They have no bells or whistles.
They are just old fashioned fun.

One of these toys is on the low windowsill in the kitchen.
The other is on the low windowsill in the dining room.
Both wide windowsills are actually window seats.
However, young children like to stand next to them since they are just the right height.

The Fort

Posted in Faith | 2 Comments

We tried it a few weekends ago.
My oldest daughter thought it would be so much fun to build.
She remembered how much she and her brothers and sisters loved it when they were young.
She thought her little niece would enjoy it, too.

She pulled the leather ottoman into the center of the room.
She pulled a small chair to the center as well.
She went to the large basket in the back of the family room.
She pulled out a large blanket and draped it ever so carefully over both things.
