No Appointment

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

When I entered my fifties, I remember seeing the quiz online.
I don’t usually take quizzes, but this one was about heart health.
Knowing that women need to take care of their heart, I decided to take the quiz.
There were so many questions I could not answer because I don’t know my history.

At the end of the quiz, there was a link to the Cardiology Group of our local hospital.
I thought about making an appointment.
Even though I did just fine on the quiz, not knowing my history was a factor to consider.
I looked over the doctors at the practice and picked one.

New Decade, New Year

Posted in Faith | 10 Comments

Entering 2020, I knew I had to make some changes to the frequency of the daily Whispers. This March will be eight wonderful years of writing Whispers, five days a week. When this post is published, it will be Whisper #2,050. That is an impossible task apart from the grace of God! Two granddaughters and […]

Hanging By A Thread

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

It is still hanging there.
It is still high up in the tree.
I discovered it when we were eating dinner on our deck one summer night.
It was an extremely large hive.

I thought it was a honey bee hive and called our neighbor who is in the honey business.
He told us that is was a black jacket hive.
The black jackets covered the hive, high up in the tree.
I could not imagine how we would ever get it down.

Seeing When The Power Went Out

Posted in Faith | 2 Comments

The lights went out.
There was no way of knowing the reason for the power outage.
I was in the basement when we lost power.
I was in the unfinished part, putting some things in the freezer.

Everything went pitch black.
Thankfully, I knew where to walk.
I knew where the door was to the finished part of our basement.
I knew where the steps were that would bring me back upstairs.

The Swinging Door

Posted in Faith | 4 Comments

When my granddaughter comes to Grandma’s house, she knows what she wants to do.
She opens the toy chest to make her selection.
She likes to play with the small marble roller in the dining room.
She likes to read books.

I have raised five children in this house.
The plug caps are still in the outlets.
Since my decorating is in a country style, there is not much that can be damaged.
Things are old already and a little wear gives them even more charm.

It Happened On A Curve In The Road

Posted in Faith | 6 Comments

It was a normal food shopping day.
Or so I thought.
I left the house early, since I was unable to walk because of the rain.
There was one errand I had to do before I went to the grocery store.

I was listening to a podcast as I was driving.
I needed to drive on a very curvy road.
Even on a clear day, I go slow on this road around all the curves.
I was coming up to the last big curve.

Road Signs

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

You have seen the signs along the road.
They may say various things, but their purpose is the same.
They are set up in such a way that the driver is expected to read them.
I have seen a series of these signs when we are on vacation.

We usually vacation in the Outer Banks.
The signs appear miles before you reach the actual place.
A farmer with a large produce stand uses the signs to advertise.
Each sign allows the driver to see what produce is available.

The Woman Who Came Through The Line

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

She is always so pleasant.
I try to go through her line when I check out.
She always calls me, Hon.
She has a contagious smile.

We talk in snippets.
Sometimes that snippets are all you need.
Somewhere along the line, we realized we have the Lord in common.
I knew it, Hon, I remember her saying to me.

The Bounty Of Her Garden

Posted in Faith | 4 Comments

The invitation came from one of the women in our Bible study.
All of us know that she has a garden.
There have been times when she uses her garden as an object lesson.
We are always blessed when something so practical helps to explain things even better.

She decided to have a garden party earlier in the summer.
Not the quintessential garden party you may think of from movies or books.
This was a true garden party.
We feasted on the bounty of her garden.

Who Is This?

Posted in Faith | 4 Comments

The rain was pouring down in buckets.
The familiar looked unfamiliar through the sheets of water.
I had driven these roads hundreds of times before.
I was driving the roads that take me home.

Water was rushing down the streets like a river.
It would be beautiful if I was not the one driving.
I would have liked to stop and watch the rain.
I would have liked to stop and watch the water moving with a mind of its own.
