No Distractions

I want to see You clearly, Lord.
But I really must confess,
That often things get in the way,
Even things called best.

I know I have a job to do,
A calling on my life,
Things block the view of what I’m to do.
They cause a lot of strife.

Reflection

Today, I sat in my little church,
In the pew I always do.
Preparing my heart for worship,
The cross always in my view.

A simple cross, that’s made of brass.
Yet, meaning so much more.
When I looked at the cross today, I sensed,
I had never seen it before.

Courage

Do we have the courage, Lord, to freely speak our mind?
Or are we made to feel afraid, wondering who’s behind?

Help us have the strength, Lord, to stand for what is right.
We often think the battle is just not worth the fight.

How do we even know, Lord, what You’re calling us to do?
Those out in the marketplace will question what is true.

What Do I Lean On?

So many things to rest on.
So many things beneath.
Things that I can tuck away.
Things I can bequeath.

Things that make me who I am.
Define my every move.
Things that I can count on.
Things to help my life run smooth.

Auld Lang Syne

The year is drawing to a close.
The New Year’s right behind.
What did we do…what have we learned?
What treasure’s left to mine?

Did we travel places to and fro?
Did we learn a new found skill?
Did we meet new friends…and cherish old?
Did we always pay our bills?

Don’t Miss Him

Posted in Christmas, Poetry | 2 Comments

Are you done your shopping?
Did you send your cards?
Did you wrap the presents?
Finding boxes was hard.

Did you hang your stockings?
Did you trim the tree?
Did you bake some cookies?
Are there any for me?

There Is No Room

There is no room, was often said.
The couple searched for some soft bed.
Where their long awaited baby’s cry,
Would pierce the silence of the sky.

But the sky rang loud with angels white,
Who announced the birth in dark of night.
To a sleeping town with sleeping hearts,
Unaware of what God would start.

Senseless Tragedy

Posted in Poetry | 3 Comments

There’s an eerie silence, Lord
All across the land.
People are asking Why, Lord?
Where is Your loving Hand?

Why is there so much violence?
Why is a gun the tool?
Why are tears the status quo?
What about the Golden Rule?

Christmas Pondering

Posted in Poetry | Leave a comment

A manger was the place God chose to hold His only Son.
Hay was strewn about the floor around the precious One.
Animals breathed their warming breath to keep the Baby warm.
Swaddling clothes was all He wore, from rags that had been torn.

His mother was so very young, yet not so very scared.
She listened to the angel and she knew the Father cared.
She had Joseph by her side, a man of gentle strength.
Dreams would map their journey; he would go to any length.

Thankfulness Of The One

Posted in Poetry | Leave a comment

Ten men were walking on the road.
Unclean their desperate cry.
They had to stay so far away,
From others passing by.

The disease had made them all unclean.
Cut off and so alone.
Disfigured, scarred, and smelly.
The pain would make them moan.
