I saw a picture and it made me smile.
A little girl was playing with a soccer ball all by herself in her back yard.
She is at home with her mother while her older sister and brother are in school.
From the photos I see, this little girl knows how to entertain herself splendidly.

Just a picture of a little girl and a soccer ball in her back yard.
Her mom wrote, She just likes kicking the ball all over the yard by herself.
Good for her.
This little girl has no trouble coming up with things to do.

The Call

Posted in Prayer | Leave a comment

My husband and I have lived in an apartment and three houses during our married life.
Each place got a little bigger than the one before.
Each place did not get bigger for ostentatious reasons.
Each place got bigger out of necessity as our family grew.

Our apartment was close to where my husband worked.
However, when a new plant opened, he was one of the start-up engineers there.
We moved so that he could be closer to the plant.
A four-lane state road ran behind our development.

The Furnace Room

Posted in Prayer | 2 Comments

The power went out.
It had snowed all through the night.
I knew that my husband would probably work from home.
I knew that I could sleep a bit longer.

He had gotten up to check the weather since the snow had not started until early morning.
Apparently, he got into the shower.
As he was showering, the power went out.
Having well water, we lose everything in a power outage.

The Master’s Hand

Posted in Prayer | 2 Comments

There is such a thing as sneak attacks.
Sneak attacks are something that creep up on you and trigger a memory.
It may be a song, a smell, or an object that sneaks up on you.
Often the memory is lovely, but for some people the memory may be painful.

Thankfully, my sneak attack was quite lovely.
It happened as I was looking for a book on one of my bookshelves.
Something on the spine of a book caught my eye.
There was a clear piece of packing tape that was reflecting the light.

Battle Buddies

In 1995, the year my fifth child was born, Toy Story came to the theaters.
It was the story about a boy named Andy and his beloved sheriff doll named, Woody.
Andy’s mother was getting ready to move her son and daughter in a week’s time.
Consequently, Andy’s birthday party was moved up a week.

All the toys come to life when no one is in the room.
A scouting team is sent on a mission to check out the birthday party and the gifts Andy receives.
The toy soldiers leading the mission create an elaborate communication system.
Using baby monitors, they spy on the birthday party and report their findings.

The Prayer Circle

She came over this morning with her two children.
They have all been here before.
I know just the right toys for her children.
There are favorite things that they usually play with when they are here.

This mom is about seventeen years younger than me.
I have walked where she is now walking.
It is a friendship/mentoring relationship.
I glean much from our relationship and I hope she does as well.

Popcorn Conversation

Posted in Prayer | Leave a comment

I spent the morning with two very special friends.
One lived on my street growing up and we played together when we were girls.
The other lived a few miles away but we were friends all throughout grade school.
One has Facebook, the other does not.

We get together for our annual breakfast.
We pick up right where we left off.
We each remember the important things that we talked about last.
We each remember the things that matter only to the three of us.

Irritants and Annoyances

Posted in Prayer | Leave a comment

I cleaned the glass top table on the deck.
I looked out my kitchen window and I saw a thin layer of yellow dust on the top.
I went out to clean it again.
My paper towel was covered with the same yellow dust.

Pollen.
A thin layer of pollen was over everything.
I should have known by the amount of tissues that was being used in our house.
It is the season for allergies.

Never A Wrong Number

Posted in Prayer | Leave a comment

We’ve all done it at one time or another.
We’ve texted the wrong person.
We are in the middle of two conversation streams.
We answer what we just read but we responded to the wrong stream.

It can be embarrassing.
Even when we purpose to look up and make sure the recipient is the correct one, we don’t.
In our rush to respond, we just type and send.
We really need to check and double check.

Reach Out The Window

Posted in Prayer | Leave a comment

Sometimes, you come upon a story that changes your perspective.
One such story happened a few weeks ago.
It changed the perspective of many people.
It spurred them on at a time when news stories seem to be getting worse instead of better.

It all happened in Vancouver, Washington.
A woman was going through a Dutch Bros. drive-through window to get some coffee.
It was a familiar scene for the baristas at this little coffee shop.
Except this particular day it would be different.
