Moving Furniture

We are waiting for some furniture to be delivered.
The new furniture will go in our family room.
The old furniture will go into our finished basement.
A lot of moving around will be happening in a few hours.

The old furniture is leather; the new furniture is leather.
Leather lasts and lasts.
Our current furniture was bought when our youngest daughter was four years old.
She is now almost twenty-seven years old.

The Stone Lions

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

You could say it was the last hurrah of summer.
It was a lovely evening when being outside just made sense.
Two of my daughters planned the evening, with three of my grandchildren.
I was invited, which was an easy, yes.

My youngest daughter was going to be there as well with her husband and some friends.
It was an outdoor concert, which I knew would mean many people sitting on the lawn.
Since restaurants are nearby, we could choose how to have dinner.
We could eat inside, we could eat outside (cafe style), or we could have a picnic on the lawn.

The Nuisance That Is My Walnut Tree

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

Trees are beautiful.
As fall approaches, the trees will be ablaze in color.
The air will get chillier.
The leaves will fall and carpet the ground.

I love trees.
Oh…but my walnut tree.
It is a nuisance.
That sounds harsh, but my feelings towards it are justified.

The Baby In Front Of Me

Posted in Worship | Leave a comment

I sat in the pew waiting for the service to begin.
I saw a man put something down on the pew on front of me.
I assumed he would return to it in a bit.
I moved over in my pew so that others could sit on the end.

A family came in and saw the large space in the pew in front of me.
As they were ready to sit down, they noticed what had been left by the man.
The woman looked back at me and mouthed, Are these seats taken?
There was only one person, I mouthed back, putting up my index finger.

Discussing A Fairy Tale

Posted in Bible | Leave a comment

I planned Grandma days with my three oldest three granddaughters.
It was my oldest granddaughter’s turn.
She decided to go to our favorite spot for hot chocolate and a doughnut.
I had two other places in mind for us to go.

We were listening to the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack, at her request.
She wanted to hear the narration again, which explains the fairy tale.
She wanted to talk about it, so I turned off the music.
She had questions about the need for the beast to be loved and to love in return.

The Challenge

The challenge was on.
The cartoon-ish nature of the piece made me take notice.
The drawing of two feet made me wonder what this was all about.
I read it skeptically.

How smart is your right foot?
I guess there are some things the brain cannot handle.

The Fallen Branch

How I love my morning walk.
I love the solitude.
I love what I see.
I love what I hear.

I am always amazed at how the littlest, simplest thing can be the most profound.
It is not that I am more astute.
I look for things.
I seek to be aware of my surroundings.

Staccato Conversation

Posted in Prayer | Leave a comment

I began to take piano lessons when I was six years old.
My fingers were just barely able to reach an octave.
That was the prerequisite for my piano teacher.
My piano teacher was British, her wavy gray hair always perfectly in position.

My mother drove me to her house every Wednesday for my 4:00 lesson.
Most times I came prepared.
Sometimes I had not practiced as I should.
My teacher always knew and I was always surprised.

Choosing A Table

It was a Grandma Day.
I like to have one-on-one time with my grandchildren.
This day was the first Grandma Day for a special little almost two-and-a-half-year-old.
It was a big deal to her to go in Grandma’s car all by herself.

I told my daughter that I would be over at 9:30am.
I planned to take this little sweetheart to a coffee shop to get her favorite doughnut.
Then, I planned to take her shopping for one special thing (her choice) and a new dress.
I think I was as excited as she was for our time together.

Pouring Coffee

Posted in Faith | Leave a comment

I have never had coffee.
I have no desire to even taste it.
Many people think that is very odd.
However, I love my cup of tea.

The fact that I have never had coffee does not keep me from making it for others.
My husband loves coffee.
Every night I make the coffee for him so that it is ready when he gets up.
The aroma of coffee, that everyone raves about, is lost on me.
