An Advent Pondering

Posted in Christmas | 6 Comments

I just saw, Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers, last week with a dear friend.
There was much music, which was an unexpected blessing.
However, the simple depiction of Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem was so powerful.
Their humanness, poverty, and their love for one another was so moving.

Mary, with her large pregnant belly, rode sideways on the back of a donkey.
Joseph pulled the donkey along, while talking to his betrothed.
Mary requested to get off the donkey and walk for a bit.
We’re far enough away, she reminded Joseph, as she touched her pregnant belly.

Waiting

Posted in Faith | 4 Comments

It always happened the first weekend of December.
We would hear the sirens in the distance.
The first time I heard them, I thought there was an emergency.
I was assured by a neighbor that the sirens were for a good reason.

We were living in our first house.
We had two daughters; one was a toddler and the other was an infant.
The older one was just the age to appreciate what was happening.
Santa was coming to visit on the back of a firetruck.

One Little Word

It is a Grandma weekend with all three of my granddaughters here.
Playing Christmas music reminded me of this Whisper from a few years ago.
It was originally published on December 18, 2019.

This is the time of year to listen to Christmas music.
I confess that I begin listening a bit earlier each year.
I used to wait until after Thanksgiving.
I usually stop listening a few days after Christmas.

Two Left Feet

It was three pairs of sneakers ago.
I went to the town that is our county seat.
I parked and walked to the running store.
I think it’s ironic that, as a walker, I get my sneakers at a running store.

I like to know that I’m getting the right shoe for me.
I appreciate that all the sales people know a lot about running shoes.
They know a lot about the shoes that are best for walking as well.
I like to know that I am fitted properly.

Intentionally Glad

Posted in Worship | 4 Comments

This Whisper was originally published in July, 2014. With Thanksgiving fast approaching, I thought that it needed to be shared again. Whispers of His Movement will be on a short break so that I can spend Thanksgiving with my family. As God allows, a new Whisper will be published on November 30.

I found myself thinking about a movie.
It is one that I watched with my children, but I haven’t seen in a while.
It still makes me smile every time I think of it.
It is the story of Pollyanna.

Walking With A Child

Posted in Discipleship | 2 Comments

A 5K Walk/Run for Life was scheduled.
It is something I have participated in for many years.
It is wonderful to walk alongside others who stand for the sanctity of life.
It is wonderful to see the community come together.

Rain was in the forecast.
The forecast predicted that light rain would fall during our walk.
I know that I was not the only one praying for the rain to hold off until later in the day.
When I opened the blinds in the morning, I saw only sunshine and brilliant autumn colors.

All Because Of A Shopping Cart

Posted in Salvation | 2 Comments

I saw her struggling with the shopping carts.
She was desperately trying to pull one cart free from the others.
The cart was not budging.
The carts were all stuck together.

I was walking towards the carts, ready to get one of my own.
Whoever put these together, put them together good, she said as she pulled.
I saw a lone cart that someone had left near the entrance.
I went over towards it as the woman was still pulling and tugging.

Valet Parking

I was meeting three friends for lunch.
I went to grade school and high school with two of those friends.
We all met the other friend in high school.
So many memories are packed into our friendship.

The sign of a good friendship is being able to start right where you left off.
No need to explain or go back to chapter one.
Chapters of our lives have been shared along the way.
No need to see each other all the time, but when we do plan our visit, it’s as if we never left.

A Mist

Posted in Daily Living | 2 Comments

I love cold weather.
People go down to Florida to get away from the cold; I embrace it.
I love to walk in the cold.
I always feel more alive.

I have my walking coat that I have had for years.
The zipper pull actually broke off last year.
I had it replaced at the dry cleaners.
I could not bear to replace that coat, since I love it like a worn pair of jeans.

A Game As An Object Lesson

Posted in Bible | 2 Comments

I met her for breakfast at a neighborhood coffee shop.
She and I have been in Bible study together for over ten years.
I tower over her about an entire foot.
What she doesn’t have in stature, she has in heart.

Our breakfast was three hours long.
Not the eating part, rather the talking part.
I even splurged and got some delicious hot chocolate.
An extra shot of mocha? The barista asked me.
